Industrial supply shipping software buys carrier labels for the fasteners, fittings, tools, and replacement parts a distributor sends by parcel. GoatLabels rate-shops USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL on every carton from one account, at $0 a month on Free or $40 flat on Pro. It is parcel only: no LTL, no freight, and no hazmat service.
USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL quoted together on each carton of parts you pack, from one account with no carrier contracts to set up.
Every label debits the quoted amount to a dated ledger entry that carries your sales order, PO, or customer reference.
Most MRO and industrial distributors use one of four tools for parcel orders: the carriers' own websites, a subscription shipping platform, an enterprise multi-carrier or freight system, or a label service such as GoatLabels. GoatLabels quotes four carriers from one account and keeps a prepaid ledger, but it does not book freight or handle regulated goods. The table sets the trade-offs side by side.

| GoatLabels | Carrier websites and tools | Subscription shipping platform | Enterprise multi-carrier or freight system | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carriers quoted per carton | USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL quoted on every parcel, one all-in number per carrier. | One carrier per site. Comparing means entering the same carton on each site. | The carrier accounts you connect, plus the platform's own rates where offered. | Your contracted carriers, usually chosen by routing rules. |
| Heavy and long cartons | Each quote is for the weight and dimensions you enter. Carrier limits still apply, and re-weigh adjustments post to the ledger. | Each carrier applies its own limits. USPS Priority Mail tops out at 70 lb and 108 inches in combined length and girth. | Carrier limits and surcharges pass through from the accounts you connect. | Built for mixed loads, often with parcel, LTL, and freight in one system. |
| How orders arrive | Bulk CSV import of up to 500 rows per file, a REST API, or 13 store connectors. No native ERP connector. | Typed by hand, or a carrier-specific batch upload. | Store and marketplace integrations; ERP links vary by vendor. | Integrated with the ERP or WMS as an implementation project. |
| Regulated goods and hazmat | No hazmat service. Aerosols, adhesives, and other regulated goods must be arranged with the carrier under its rules. | Handled under each carrier's own rules. USPS restricts or prohibits some hazardous materials and limits some to ground transport. | Depends on the vendor and on your carrier agreements. Check before you rely on it. | Often supported as a module, with your own carrier agreements. |
| Cost records | A prepaid wallet with a dated ledger entry per label that carries your reference. | A separate invoice or statement from each carrier. | A subscription charge plus label charges or carrier invoices. | Carrier invoices, often with audit and allocation tools. |
| Price and commitment | Free $0 a month with 50 shipments, or Pro $40 a month flat with unlimited shipments. No contract. | No software fee. You pay each carrier's rates for your account. | A monthly subscription, often tiered by volume or users. | Quoted by sales, typically with implementation fees. |

Industrial supply shipping software turns a picked order of fasteners, fittings, tools, or replacement parts into a carrier label, a tracking number, and a recorded shipping cost. For an MRO distributor the hard part is rarely the address. It is that a shoebox of bolts can weigh forty pounds, so the carrier that suits a light carton is often the wrong pick for the next one. Buyers also call this MRO shipping software, industrial distributor shipping software, or heavy parcel shipping software; the need is the same.
Good software for this trade does three things on every carton: compares carriers at the real weight and dimensions, prints the label at the pack bench, and records what the parcel cost against the order. GoatLabels covers those three jobs for parcels and leaves pallets to your freight tool. Any shipping software for industrial distributors should be judged on those three first.
Weight and size limits decide which services a dense carton can use, and they differ by carrier. USPS Priority Mail accepts parcels up to 70 lb and 108 inches in combined length and girth. UPS applies Additional Handling when the longest side exceeds 48 inches, the second-longest side exceeds 30 inches, or the package weighs more than 50 lb.
In MRO parcel shipping that means a 55 lb box of pipe fittings and a 52-inch length of threaded rod can each change the result of a rate comparison. GoatLabels quotes USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL on the weight and dimensions you enter and shows one all-in number per carrier. If a carrier re-weighs the parcel, the adjustment posts to the same ledger as its own line.
Export the orders that are ready to ship as a CSV file and import it into GoatLabels, which accepts up to 500 rows per file and names the row and field of any error. One bad row does not fail the batch, so a missing suite number holds back one order while the rest of the afternoon wave prints.
An order that packs into several cartons produces several labels, each with the same reference. Distributors with a developer can call the REST API from the ERP instead, with unlimited calls on every plan. There is no native ERP or WMS connector, so the export or the API call is yours to set up. PrintNode auto-print sends labels to the bench printer.
Send your sales order, PO, or customer number as the reference when you buy the label, and it appears on the ledger entry for that label. Every label debits the quoted amount from a prepaid wallet and writes a dated line, so freight cost per order is a filter on one export instead of a match across several carrier invoices.
This matters when shipping is billed back to the customer or absorbed on contract accounts, because the cost and the reference sit on the same line. Multi-carton orders show one line per carton under the same reference. GoatLabels does not write the cost into your ERP automatically; your import or script does the posting.
It is the wrong fit if most of your volume moves on pallets, if you ship regulated goods, or if you need your own negotiated carrier rates. GoatLabels is parcel only, does not quote or book LTL or freight, and has no hazmat service. Aerosols, adhesives, and other regulated goods must be arranged with the carrier under its rules.
It also has no native ERP, WMS, or EDI connector, no phone support, no SLA, and no sub-accounts per branch. Distributors that need those usually choose an enterprise multi-carrier or freight system. GoatLabels suits a branch or warehouse whose non-regulated orders leave as cartons and that wants four carrier quotes without a contract.

Your order system already holds the ship-to, the carton weights, and the PO number. The REST API lets a script rate-shop four carriers and buy the label when the order is packed, with unlimited calls on every plan, live and test keys, Idempotency-Key support, signed replayable webhooks, and rate-limit headers. The dashboard and the API spend the same prepaid wallet.
